Rwanda is taking part in the 9th General Assembly of the Organization of Military Sports in Africa, underway in Livingstone from April 12 to 18, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen military sports and continental cooperation.
The Rwandan delegation, representing both the International Military Sports Council and OSMA, is led by Chief J9 Colonel Désiré Migambi Mungamba. Their participation reflects Rwanda’s commitment to promoting sports as a tool for unity, discipline, and operational readiness within the armed forces.
The General Assembly serves as a key platform for reviewing past activities and setting future strategic priorities for military sports across Africa. Discussions are aligned with broader objectives of CISM, focusing on strengthening collaboration among member states through sports.
Key items on the agenda include preparations for major international competitions such as the Military World Games, capacity building initiatives, sustainability strategies, budget reviews, and the allocation of upcoming events. These deliberations aim to ensure continued growth and effectiveness of military sports programs across the continent.
Guided by the shared motto of “friendship through sports,” the assembly emphasizes the role of sports in promoting peace, security, and cooperation among nations. It also highlights the importance of maintaining high levels of fitness and readiness among military personnel.
Core values including sacrifice, humility, honesty, teamwork, respect, integrity, hospitality, and discipline remain central to military sports. These principles are seen as essential in fostering unity, strengthening bonds, and enhancing social cohesion among armed forces from different countries.
Rwanda’s participation underscores its active role in advancing military cooperation and leveraging sports as a unifying force for regional stability and development.
