The Tour Across Rwanda by Europe-Based Rwandan Ambassadors
The Rwandan Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Johnston Busingye, has shared a heartwarming account of a recent tour across Rwanda that he undertook alongside Ambassador François Nkulikiyimfura, Rwanda’s representative to France.
In a message posted on his X account and accompanied by photos, Ambassador Busingye explained that the tour allowed them to rediscover their homeland and witness firsthand the remarkable progress Rwanda continues to make across different regions.
He noted that both ambassadors had long wished to travel extensively within Rwanda, a country they proudly represent abroad, but had not previously found the opportunity to do so.
The decision to embark on the journey was made during a gathering held on January 8, 2026, and just two days later, the plan was put into action.
“On Sunday, January 11, together with Magnus Mazimpaka, a senior journalist, CEO of Taarifa, a technology expert and experienced tour guide, as well as our professional driver Gilbert Shyaka, we enjoyed a smooth and memorable trip through Bugesera, Nyanza, Huye, Rusizi, Karongi, Rubavu and Nyirangarama,” Ambassador Busingye wrote.
He added that they had also planned to visit Musanze town and the Bigogwe area, but postponed those destinations to a future visit.
During their stop in Bugesera District, the ambassadors were impressed by the level of development achieved and its impact on the lives of local residents.
“Many parts of Bugesera have changed significantly. There is visible progress in infrastructure, housing, commerce, industrial investment, agriculture and educational institutions. We travelled along the road leading to the Nemba border with Burundi, where a newly constructed and high-quality road to Nyanza begins. The border is nearby, and the area is vibrant with urban activity. We also crossed the well-known Rwabusoro Bridge,” he noted.
Ambassador Busingye further explained that the journey took them through beautiful countryside landscapes, offering a refreshing view of rural Rwanda. Upon reaching the Kigali–Huye highway, the team made a stop at Stafford Coffee in Nyanza, where he praised the quality of the coffee, the service, and their popular banana cakes.
The tour also included a visit to the University of Rwanda, Huye Campus, where the ambassadors observed the institution’s continued expansion and its impressive learning environment.
Overall, the tour left both ambassadors deeply satisfied, reaffirming their pride in Rwanda’s transformation and the steady progress being made across the country.
