AU delegation praises Rwanda’s Humanitarian and Disaster response efforts

The Minister in charge of Emergency Management, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Albert Murasira, on Wednesday received a delegation from the African Union Humanitarian Assessment Mission currently conducting an official visit to Rwanda from June 8 to 11, 2026.


The delegation was led by H.E. Indrajeet Babooa, Ambassador of Mauritius and Permanent Representative to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).

During the meeting, the delegation praised Rwanda for its efforts in disaster risk management, post-disaster recovery, and resilience building, noting that the country has continued to demonstrate strong commitment in addressing humanitarian challenges.

The mission also commended Rwanda’s support and protection for refugees and asylum seekers, highlighting the country’s role in promoting humanitarian values and regional solidarity.

As part of the visit, the delegation reaffirmed the African Union’s commitment to supporting communities affected by disasters and humanitarian crises across the continent. Members of the mission emphasized the importance of African solidarity and stronger collaboration in responding to emergencies and protecting vulnerable populations.

Minister Murasira welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the African Union’s continued engagement in humanitarian action across Africa.

He underscored the need to strengthen regional cooperation, solidarity, and collective advocacy in order to effectively address humanitarian challenges and enhance resilience among vulnerable communities.

The Humanitarian Assessment Mission forms part of ongoing efforts by the African Union to evaluate humanitarian response systems, strengthen partnerships, and promote coordinated action in member states facing disasters and humanitarian pressures.
