Rwanda, Guinea-Bissau strengthen diplomatic cooperation in Morocco
Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe, met with his counterpart from Guinea-Bissau, João Bernardo Vieira, during a conference on peacekeeping operations among French-speaking countries held in Morocco.
The two officials discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Rwanda and Guinea-Bissau, with a focus on expanding cooperation in sectors that offer shared economic and diplomatic benefits. Their talks also highlighted the importance of stronger collaboration between African nations through regional and international partnerships.
The conference brought together representatives from Francophone countries to discuss peacekeeping efforts, regional stability, and cooperation in addressing security challenges affecting different regions.
During the meeting, Rwanda also requested Guinea-Bissau’s support for the candidacy of Louise Mushikiwabo for another term as Secretary-General of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF).
Mushikiwabo has served as head of the Francophonie organization since 2019 and remains one of Rwanda’s most influential diplomats internationally. Kigali continues to engage member states of the Francophonie bloc in support of her re-election bid as the organization works to strengthen cooperation among French-speaking nations in areas such as peacebuilding, education, culture, and economic development.
The meeting also reflected Rwanda’s broader diplomatic strategy of deepening ties with West African countries and strengthening its presence in continental and global affairs through dialogue, cooperation, and multilateral engagement.
