KOICA Celebrate 3rd Cohort of Youth Volunteers, Highlighting Stronger Korea–Rwanda Digital Partnership
Rwanda Polytechnic (RP) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) celebrated the Final Performance Sharing Event of the KOICA Youth Volunteer Program – 3rd Cohort, marking a significant milestone in the growing strategic partnership between Rwanda and the Republic of Korea in ICT and digital transformation.
The ceremony brought together KOICA officials, volunteers, instructors, RP leadership, and students to reflect on the strong results of the program and the promising future it continues to unlock for Rwanda’s digital ecosystem.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Sylvie Mucyo, Vice Chancellor of Rwanda Polytechnic, praised the program as a powerful catalyst for capacity building and a direct contributor to Rwanda’s national ICT vision.
“It is my pleasure and honor to celebrate the conclusion of this program, which stands as clear evidence of what strategic collaboration can achieve,” she said. “Rwanda’s national vision is anchored in ICT and digital transformation, and Rwanda Polytechnic is tasked with producing the skilled professionals who will propel this digital future.”
Dr. Mucyo highlighted the program’s three intensive and market-ready technical specializations Marketing & Digital Branding, Mobile Application Development, and Unity Game Development & Design noting that these skills are critical for job creation, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
“These are not theoretical subjects; they are high-value, industry-driven competencies that Rwanda needs to cement its leadership in the digital space,” she added.
She extended gratitude to KOICA and to the exceptional instructors, the WANDAGIRLS—Ms. Lee Sumi (Karabo), Ms. Lee Il (Kazuba), and Ms. Park Jeongmin (Keza) whose professionalism and teaching excellence she said had “left an indelible mark” on the students.
“You have transferred more than knowledge; you have instilled a culture of innovation, excellence, and global best practice,” she remarked.
Dr. Mucyo urged the graduates to use their newly acquired skills not only for personal advancement but to contribute meaningfully to national development.
“Rwanda Polytechnic remains committed to strengthening this powerful synergy with KOICA,” she said. “Skills for a better destiny that is our shared commitment.”
KOICA Rwanda Country Director, Ms. Kim JINHWA, commended the volunteers and partners, describing the collaboration as a journey of “shared growth” between Korean youth volunteers and Rwandan learners.
She reiterated KOICA’s commitment to supporting ICT education, digital skills development, AI-driven learning, and youth empowerment nationwide.
“This program is a testament to what cooperation, empathy, and mutual learning can achieve,” she said. “To our volunteers and participants—you are champions of change.”
Ms. Kim emphasized that KOICA will continue prioritizing AI-based education, digital entrepreneurship, IoT literacy, and workforce development in partnership with Rwandan institutions, noting that this aligns with Korea’s national strategy for global AI cooperation.
The event also highlighted the wider contribution of over 60 World Friends Korea (WFK) volunteers serving in Rwanda across various sectors including ICT, education, youth development, agriculture, and social welfare.
The 3rd Cohort’s achievements reflect the growing strength of Korea–Rwanda cooperation in building a competitive, future-ready workforce.
As the event closed, leaders from both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding the program and nurturing a new generation of digitally empowered Rwandan professionals.
