Rwandan Diaspora Youth in Poland Visit Key Historical and Memorial Sites in Rwanda
Rwandan youth living in Poland have visited key historical and memorial sites in Rwanda as part of a cultural and educational tour aimed at deepening their understanding of the country’s history, unity, and post-genocide transformation.
The youth visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial and the Campaign Against Genocide Museum at the Rwanda Parliament, where they reflected on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and the importance of preserving memory while promoting unity and reconciliation.
The visit began on Saturday, 20 December 2025, with a tour of the Rwanda Liberation Museum in Gicumbi District. During the visit, participants learned about Rwanda’s liberation struggle and the foundations that have shaped the country’s recovery and development journey.
The initiative was organized by the Rwanda Community Abroad – Poland (RCA Poland) as part of its 2025 end-of-year programme, which aims to strengthen historical awareness among diaspora youth and equip them to counter genocide ideology and denial.
Speaking during the visit, Mr. Nyomayiire Allan, Chairperson of RCA Poland, reaffirmed the commitment of Rwandan youth to safeguarding national unity and reconciliation. Writing in the visitors’ book at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, he stated:
“We, the youth of Rwanda, vow never to allow our country to return to the dark history of genocide and to always promote unity and reconciliation.”
The cultural heritage tour provided an opportunity for the youth to reconnect with Rwanda’s past, reflect on the country’s resilience and remarkable transformation, and explore their role in contributing to national development.
RCA Poland is mainly composed of Rwandan students and young professionals living in Poland and continues to play an active role in strengthening ties between Rwanda and its diaspora.
