Rwanda’s industrial sector continued to register impressive growth, with output increasing by 10.3% in November 2025 compared to the same period in the previous year.

According to figures released by the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR), the overall annual growth rate of the industrial sector stood at 6.3%, underscoring the sector’s growing contribution to the country’s economic development.

The growth was driven by strong performance across several sub-sectors. Mining and quarrying expanded by 4.1%, manufacturing activities grew by 4.9%, while electricity generation recorded a significant increase of 14.1%. Water supply and sanitation services also posted a growth of 6.6%.

Within the manufacturing sector, the increase was largely attributed to higher production of beverages and tobacco, which rose by 1.8%, as well as the manufacturing of plastic products, which grew by 2.6%.

However, some sub-sectors experienced a decline. The production of textiles, leather, and related products fell by 7.5%, while wood processing, paper manufacturing, and printing activities declined by 6.0%.

Industry remains one of the key pillars of Rwanda’s economic transformation agenda. The government continues to invest heavily in expanding and developing industrial zones across the country to boost production capacity and create employment

The government also plans to establish a Rwf 500 billion support fund aimed at boosting private sector investment, promoting industrial exports, and strengthening the mining sector.

During the 2024/2025 fiscal year, Rwanda registered 111 new industrial establishments. Of these, 84 were agro-processing industries, 10 focused on construction materials, two were mineral-processing plants, and 15 produced consumer goods.

Agro-processing remains the dominant segment of Rwanda’s industrial sector, accounting for 85 large-scale factories and 908 small industries. Manufacturing of various industrial products includes 91 large factories and 398 small ones, while the construction materials sub-sector comprises 38 large factories and 82 small enterprises.

These developments highlight the continued expansion of Rwanda’s industrial sector and its growing role in driving economic growth and sustainable development.
