Clean water, electricity and infrastructure: How KRCC accelerated development in Mutenderi
Over the past years, residents of Mutenderi Sector in Ngoma District, Eastern Province, have witnessed significant improvements in their living conditions through development projects implemented by Karimbu Rwanda Community Center (KRCC), an organization that has been working closely with local communities and authorities to address challenges affecting livelihoods and development.
Among the key achievements were environmental protection efforts through tree planting, expanding access to clean water, constructing infrastructure such as sports facilities, connecting households to electricity, and building a community kitchen that has played an important role in combating malnutrition.
KRCC was founded by Dr. Bikomeye Jean Chrysostome, a native of Mutenderi who now lives in the United States. He moved there after receiving a scholarship from President Paul Kagame to pursue his studies.
In his remarks, Dr. Bikomeye expressed satisfaction with the progress made and said the achievements inspire the organization to do even more.
“What we have achieved so far motivates us to continue working with communities, local leaders, and various partners so that development initiatives can reach even more people who still need support,” he said.
Ngoma District Mayor Nathalie Niyonagira praised KRCC’s contribution to improving the welfare of residents, noting that its projects have produced tangible results.
“We appreciate the many initiatives that have benefited our citizens. The community kitchen, in particular, has played a major role in fighting diseases linked to malnutrition, alongside other projects that have transformed people’s lives,” she said.
Mayor Niyonagira also called on Rwandans living abroad to remain actively involved in the development of their communities of origin.
“The diaspora has a significant role to play in the country’s development. We encourage them to remember where they come from and continue contributing to initiatives that improve the lives of citizens,” she added.
During the visit, KRCC partners including Steve Noah and Marje Etheridge with the other local leaders toured various completed projects and observed firsthand how they have improved the daily lives of local residents.
Talking to the media, Steve Noah thanked the leadership of H.E President Paul Kagame and promised the residents of Ngoma to continue supporting many other projects like this.
Residents of Mutenderi say KRCC’s impact extends beyond infrastructure development, helping them access new opportunities, improve their living standards, and build confidence in the future.
Mukamana Vestine, one of the beneficiaries, said:
“We now have electricity, something that once seemed like a dream. Today, our lives have improved because of access to power.”
As KRCC prepares to launch new programs in the coming year, residents say they are hopeful that the partnership between the organization, local authorities, and the community will continue to drive sustainable development and improved living conditions across Ngoma District.
