President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree (Honoris Causa) by the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University) during a ceremony held in Moscow on June 4, 2026.


The award was presented by the university’s rector, Professor Oleg Yastrebov, in recognition of President Samia’s contribution to education reforms, her efforts in strengthening Tanzania’s diplomacy, and her role in raising the country’s international profile, including through the tourism sector.

The honor came during President Samia’s ongoing State Visit to Russia, which began on June 2 following an invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

During the visit, President Samia also led the Tanzanian delegation in bilateral talks with President Putin and senior Russian officials at the Kremlin. The discussions focused on strengthening diplomatic, political, economic, and historical ties between Tanzania and Russia.

According to Tanzanian officials, the visit aims to deepen cooperation in strategic sectors and expand partnerships between the two countries as Tanzania advances its Vision 2050 development agenda.

President Samia arrived in Moscow at Vnukovo International Airport, marking a historic visit intended to further enhance relations between Tanzania and Russia across multiple sectors.
