Italy cancels Kanye West and Travis Scott concerts over security concerns
Italian authorities have cancelled two planned concerts involving American artists Ye f.k.a Kanye West, and Travis Scott, citing public safety and security concerns.
The performances were scheduled for July 17 and 18 at the RCF Arena in Reggio Emilia, northern Italy. According to local authorities, the decision was made due to concerns about public order, and the large number of spectators expected within a short period.
Officials said the cancellation followed appeals from consumer advocacy group CODACONS and representatives of the Jewish community in the region. Some groups had expressed concerns regarding Kanye West’s past antisemitic remarks and controversial public statements.
Travis Scott's planned appearance also drew attention because of ongoing discussions about concert safety following the 2021 Astroworld Festival tragedy in Houston, where 10 people died during a crowd surge. However, Italian authorities stated that the decision was based on overall public order and security assessments rather than any single factor.
The cancellation adds to a series of disruptions affecting Kanye West's planned European performances. Several concerts in other European countries have faced postponements and cancellations linked to controversies surrounding the artist.
However, Kanye West is set to perform in Netherlands despite bans and protests on his birthday on June 6 and June 8.
Neither Kanye West, Travis Scott, nor the event organizers had publicly commented on the Italian authorities' decision.
