The Government of Rwanda aims to build and rehabilitate over 800 km of roads, expand RwandAir’s flight routes, and establish an aviation training school over the next five years, all geared towards improving transport and facilitating easier movement within the country and internationally.

To enhance and streamline transport services, Rwanda will construct more than 300 km of new roads and rehabilitate about 500 km of existing connecting roads. In addition, RwandAir will expand its flight network and double its passenger numbers, while a new aviation training school will be established between 2024 and 2029.

Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva emphasized that these initiatives will ease the movement of people and goods, supporting economic growth and improving citizens’ livelihoods.

He explained that new roads will better connect districts and cities, while rehabilitated roads will facilitate faster and smoother transportation.

In the aviation sector, RwandAir’s increased destinations and doubled passenger capacity will open up new business and tourism opportunities.

The aviation training school will provide professional training to pilots and other aviation staff, improving the quality of the sector’s workforce.

“Investing in transport is critical for national development, and we are committed to upgrading all aspects of the sector,” said Prime Minister Nsengiyumva.

Numbers:

  • New roads to be constructed: 300+ km
  • Roads to be rehabilitated: 500 km
  • RwandAir passenger numbers to double
  • Aviation training school to be established

These transport sector plans will boost trade, enhance domestic and international market access, and contribute to sustainable improvements in the quality of life for Rwandans.
