President Kagame Receives Tanzania’s Foreign Minister to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation
On the afternoon of March 31, 2026, Paul Kagame received Mahamoud Thabit Kombo, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tanzania, for high-level discussions focused on further strengthening ties between Rwanda and Tanzania.
According to the Office of the President, the meeting emphasized the importance of deepening the already strong and longstanding bilateral relationship built on mutual trust and shared interests.
Economic cooperation remains a cornerstone of relations between the two countries. Tanzania continues to serve as a vital trade corridor for Rwanda, with around 70% of imports passing through its territory. It is also a key route for Rwandan exports destined for regional and international markets.
In July 2025, Rwanda and Tanzania signed agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation in agriculture and facilitating the establishment of offices for the Tanzania Ports Authority in Kigali. The move is expected to streamline trade logistics and boost commercial exchanges.
Beyond trade, both countries maintain close collaboration on cross-border cooperation and security, including joint efforts by their defense forces to promote peace and stability in the region.
