The AFC/M23 rebel coalition has begun distributing clean drinking water to residents of Nyiragongo and Rutshuru in North Kivu, Eastern DRC. After years without access to safe water due to conflict and neglect, thousands of families are now receiving clean water in a move expected to improve health and living conditions.

The Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC/M23) rebel coalition, which currently controls a large portion of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, has distributed clean drinking water to residents of Nyiragongo and Rutshuru territories in North Kivu Province.

In recent days, AFC/M23 has supplied clean water to communities living around Nyiragongo and Rutshuru areas that have endured years of conflict. According to local sources, many families have spent years without access to safe drinking water due to insecurity and lack of infrastructure.

Observers and local leaders have long accused the central government under President Félix Tshisekedi of neglecting these remote communities, particularly in providing essential services such as clean water.

Since establishing its own administrative structures at provincial and local levels, the AFC/M23 has moved to address some of these community needs. Earlier this year, the group gained control of key territories, including the strategic city of Goma, enabling it to expand its activities in the region.

The distribution of clean water is expected to improve the living conditions of thousands of residents and reduce the spread of waterborne diseases in the affected areas.
