Residents of Nyamagabe District, especially farmers, livestock keepers and cooperatives, are set to benefit from loans worth more than RWF 1.4 billion that will be distributed through local SACCOs as part of efforts to improve livelihoods and accelerate economic development.

The initiative is being implemented through a partnership between the Development Bank of Rwanda and SACCOs operating in different districts across the country. The program aims to help citizens access affordable loans with low interest rates so they can invest in productive activities capable of increasing income and creating jobs.

According to information released during the launch of the financing program in Nyamagabe, the funds will mainly support sectors such as agriculture, livestock farming and cooperatives. Beneficiaries are expected to use the loans to expand farming activities, purchase agricultural inputs, improve livestock production and invest in projects that can strengthen local economies.

Officials involved in the program explained that access to affordable financing remains one of the biggest challenges facing rural communities, especially small-scale farmers and cooperatives. Through this partnership, citizens will be able to obtain loans under favorable conditions compared to ordinary commercial lending systems. The loans are also expected to play an important role in increasing production and improving food security in the district. Farmers will have opportunities to modernize agricultural activities, while livestock keepers are expected to improve breeds, feeding systems and animal health services to raise productivity.

Cooperatives are among the key beneficiaries targeted by the program. Many cooperatives in Nyamagabe have reportedly struggled to access sufficient capital needed to expand their operations and create sustainable employment opportunities. The new financing is expected to help them invest in equipment, improve services and strengthen business activities.

Leaders in the district welcomed the initiative, saying it aligns with national efforts aimed at empowering citizens economically and reducing poverty through productive investments. They added that easier access to credit can help transform rural communities by encouraging entrepreneurship and supporting income-generating activities.

The partnership between BRD and district SACCOs is part of broader initiatives intended to strengthen financial inclusion in Rwanda by bringing affordable financial services closer to citizens, particularly those in rural areas.

Authorities also encouraged beneficiaries to use the funds responsibly and invest in projects capable of generating long-term profits, noting that proper loan management will be essential in ensuring the sustainability of the program and continued access to financing opportunities in the future.
