Several injured in Boeing 787 Nose-Gear Collapse
Several staff members were injured after the nose landing gear of a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner unexpectedly collapsed while the aircraft was parked at a gate at Frankfurt Airport on Thursday, forcing the cancellation of a flight to Los Angeles.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:45 p.m. local time as the aircraft was being prepared for Lufthansa Flight LH450 to Los Angeles. Emergency vehicles rushed to the scene after the front landing gear failed, causing the aircraft's nose to drop onto the tarmac. Images from the airport showed the widebody jet partially resting on its underside.
"Passengers had not yet boarded," a company spokesperson said in an emailed statement, adding that crew members and ground staff were on board the aircraft at the time of the incident, which was first reported by Bloomberg News.
"Several staff members were injured and are currently receiving medical treatment," the company added. Boeing acknowledged the incident and said it was assisting the airline.
A company spokesperson said Boeing was aware of the event and was supporting its customer, but declined to provide additional details while investigations continue.
Investigators are expected to examine maintenance records, landing-gear systems, and operational procedures to determine what caused the failure. Similar incidents involving Boeing 787 aircraft have occurred in the past, including a 2021 event involving a British Airways Dreamliner at London Heathrow Airport.
