Betty Ingabire, the Communication Lead of the Rwandan Community in Kenya, emphasized the significance of the Rwanda Cultural Gala and Exhibition 2025 as a platform to celebrate heritage, showcase “Made in Rwanda” products, and strengthen unity among Rwandans in the diaspora. The event brought together community members to honor their culture through food, fashion, music, and shared values.

Nairobi, Kenya:  The Rwanda Cultural Gala and Exhibition 2025 brought together Rwandans living in Kenya for a day dedicated to celebrating their shared heritage and strengthening cultural identity.

The event, organized by the Rwandan community in collaboration with the Rwandan High Commission in Kenya, carried the theme “Our Culture, Pillar of Our Country.” It featured exhibitions of “Made in Rwanda” products, including traditional clothing, food, and drinks, and provided an opportunity for both the young and old to reconnect with their roots.

In an interview with Ukwelitimes, Betty Ingabire, the Communications Lead of the Rwandan Community in Kenya, described the gathering as more than just a cultural showcase. She said it was a moment for the community to unite, reflect on its identity, and highlight the enduring strength of Rwandan culture.

“Today we have a Rwandan Culture Gala and Exhibition. This is a day organized by the Rwandan community in collaboration with our High Commissioner,” Ingabire explained. “We are here to learn more about our culture, especially for the young ones, and to exhibit items made in Rwanda. We eat, we drink, and we enjoy the beauty of our culture.”

She clarified that the event was not linked to Rwanda’s Independence Day but was a community-driven celebration aimed at promoting cultural values and encouraging Rwandans in the diaspora to stay connected to their traditions.

The exhibition showcased locally made products, part of an initiative to boost support for Rwandan entrepreneurship and creativity. Ingabire noted that while the community has held various cultural events in the past, this year’s edition expanded to include a stronger economic and educational component.

“We have been doing different cultural events, but this year we added the exhibition of foods and other Rwandan-made items,” she said.

Switching to Kinyarwanda during the interview, she issued a call to the wider diaspora community to take part in similar events.

“These are events that unite us as Rwandans,” she said. “It’s good that we all participate and enjoy together.”

The Rwanda Cultural Gala and Exhibition followed the conclusion of the inaugural Imena Football Tournament 2025, which also aimed to strengthen unity among Rwandans in Kenya through sports and cultural engagement.

For many attendees, the event represented more than a celebration  it was a reminder of home, of shared values, and of the responsibility to carry their culture forward wherever they live.
