Guinea’s Supreme Court has officially confirmed General Mamadi Doumbouya as the winner of the country’s presidential election, following a landslide victory in the polls held on December 28, 2025.

According to the final results validated by the court, President Doumbouya secured 86.72 percent of the total votes cast, cementing his transition from interim leader to elected head of state. His closest challenger, Yéro Baldé of the FRONDEG party, finished a distant second with just over six percent of the vote.

The President of the Electoral Commission, Djanabou Touré, had earlier announced provisional results showing a voter turnout of 80.95 percent from the country’s 6.7 million registered voters.

Although Yéro Baldé initially filed a complaint alleging irregularities in the vote tallying process, he later withdrew it before the Supreme Court delivered its final ruling.

General Doumbouya came to power in September 2021 after leading a military coup that ousted former President Alpha Condé. At the time, he had pledged that members of the transitional military leadership would not contest future elections. However, a constitutional referendum held in September 2025 amended the constitution, allowing him to run for office and extending the presidential term from five to seven years.

Speaking on national television on January 4, 2026, President Doumbouya declared the beginning of a “new era” for Guinea, calling for unity, peace, and justice among all citizens.

“Today, we enter a new phase with no winners or losers. There is only one Guinea united and indivisible,” he said.

He urged Guineans to work together to build a peaceful, just nation founded on shared prosperity and political and economic sovereignty.

With the Supreme Court’s confirmation, President Mamadi Doumbouya is now set to serve a seven-year term, marking a significant consolidation of power and a defining moment in Guinea-Conakry’s political transition.
