Denmark has officially inaugurated its embassy in Kigali, a milestone seen as a major step in strengthening diplomatic ties and expanding cooperation between Rwanda and the Nordic nation.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Denmark’s Foreign Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, alongside Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe, who both emphasized the growing partnership between their countries.

Speaking during the event, officials highlighted that the embassy’s establishment reflects Denmark’s long-term commitment to deepening engagement in Africa, with Rwanda positioned as a key strategic partner due to its stability, reform-driven governance and innovation-focused economy.

Although the diplomatic mission began operations in August 2025, the official launch signals a new phase of collaboration expected to expand cooperation in areas such as green growth, climate action, technology, trade and investment.

Denmark also reaffirmed its interest in supporting Rwanda’s sustainable development agenda and strengthening private-sector partnerships.

The opening of the embassy comes as relations between the two countries continue to grow across multiple sectors, including development cooperation, migration management and justice.

Observers say the move positions both nations to further broaden collaboration and unlock new opportunities that will benefit their citizens and regional partnerships alike.
