Rwanda and Egypt sign Police cooperation MoU to strengthen security partnership
In Cairo, the Minister of Interior of Rwanda, Dr. Vincent Biruta, together with his high-level delegation, was officially received by Egypt’s Minister of Interior, Mahmoud Tawfik, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral security relations between the two countries.
During their discussions, both ministers emphasized their shared commitment to deepening institutional cooperation and enhancing collaboration between Rwanda’s and Egypt’s security organs. The talks focused on expanding existing partnerships, particularly in areas of law enforcement coordination, professional training, and intelligence sharing.
The meeting culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Police Cooperation between Rwanda and Egypt. The agreement is designed to strengthen mechanisms for exchanging information, expertise, and best practices between the two nations’ security agencies, reinforcing their joint capacity to address emerging security challenges.
Prior to the signing ceremony, the Rwandan delegation visited the Egyptian Police Academy, where they toured several departments to gain insight into its training systems and operational structure.
Dr. Biruta praised the academy for its dedication to producing highly qualified and professional officers, highlighting the longstanding cooperation that has enabled more than 300 Rwandan officers to receive training there since 1999.
Dr. Biruta’s official visit began with tours of key law enforcement and security institutions under Egypt’s Ministry of Interior, including the Public Security Sector, the National Institute for VIP Protection, and the Ministry’s Industrial Zone. These engagements centered on strengthening already robust bilateral ties and identifying new avenues for collaboration in security and policing.
The visit reflects the growing strategic partnership between Rwanda and Egypt, particularly in areas related to security cooperation, professional capacity-building, and institutional exchange.
