President Paul Kagame arrived in Dar es Salaam on May 3, 2026, for a one-day working visit aimed at strengthening relations between Rwanda and Tanzania.
Upon arrival at the airport, President Kagame was received by Tanzania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, alongside other senior officials.
He was accompanied by Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olivier Nduhungirehe, Rwanda’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Patrick Nyamvumba, and the Head of Communications at the Office of the President, Stéphanie Nyombayire.
During the visit, President Kagame is expected to hold high-level talks with his host, Samia Suluhu Hassan, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding areas of mutual interest.
Rwanda and Tanzania continue to enjoy long-standing friendly relations, with Tanzania serving as a key gateway for Rwanda’s international trade through the Port of Dar es Salaam, which handles a significant share of Rwanda’s imports.
The two countries have also signed multiple cooperation agreements in sectors including trade, agriculture, security, technology, transport, and industrial development, reflecting their shared commitment to regional integration as members of the East African Community.
Economic ties have continued to grow steadily, with increasing investment flows between the two nations and ongoing joint infrastructure projects such as the planned Isaka–Kigali railway line, expected to enhance regional connectivity and trade efficiency.
