President Paul Kagame has announced that Rwanda will soon publicly recognize some Tanzanian citizens whose actions demonstrated exceptional courage and compassion during the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994.

He made the announcement during his working visit to Tanzania, noting that the recognition will take place during Rwanda’s ongoing remembrance period, Kwibuka 32, as the country honours victims while also acknowledging those who stood against injustice.

President Kagame emphasized that these individuals from Tanzania showed humanity at a time of great danger, helping or supporting Rwandans during one of the darkest moments in the country’s history.

Beyond the announcement, President Kagame held discussions with his host, President Samia Suluhu Hassan, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation. The talks covered key areas including trade, investment, infrastructure, energy, transport, and security.

Both leaders also reviewed progress in regional integration under the East African Community and cooperation within the African Union, reaffirming their commitment to removing barriers to trade and enhancing economic collaboration.

The announcement adds a humanitarian dimension to the strong Rwanda–Tanzania relationship, highlighting shared values of solidarity, remembrance, and long-standing friendship between the two nations.
