President Kagame meets NBA leadership to deepen Basketball partnership
President Paul Kagame held talks with senior officials from the National Basketball Association, including Commissioner Adam Silver and his deputy Mark Tatum, focusing on expanding cooperation to grow basketball and nurture young talent across Africa.
The meeting was also attended by Masai Ujiri, president of the Toronto Raptors and founder of Giants of Africa, alongside Jean-Guy Afrika, head of the Rwanda Development Board.
According to the Presidency, discussions emphasized the long-standing partnership between Rwanda and the NBA and explored ways to strengthen collaboration in developing basketball infrastructure, skills, and opportunities for youth on the continent.
They also reviewed preparations for the sixth edition of the Basketball Africa League finals, scheduled to take place in Kigali from May 22 to 31, 2026.
The NBA launched its African division in 2021 to oversee and expand the league’s activities across the continent, including competitions and development programs aimed at elevating the sport’s profile and impact.
