Prime Minister Dr. Nsengiyumva Justin visited several factories at Musanze Industrial Park, including a textile factory, a cement plant, and a steel manufacturing facility. The visit followed the conclusion of the 15th session of the Indangamirwa Conference.

During the tour, factory managers explained their operations and highlighted the challenges affecting production. Christian Twahirwa, Director General of the Industrial and Investment Department at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, said the park is designated for large-scale industries.

“The industrial park is designed to accommodate large factories in a way that avoids operational conflicts,” Twahirwa said.

The textile factory employs 1,200 people and produces around 150,000 garments monthly. Approximately 75% of its products serve the domestic market, while 30% are exported. Twahirwa added that all employees are trained and there are plans to expand the workforce, with all staff contributing various taxes.

A-One Iron and Steel Ltd plans to employ 1,000 workers directly, with an additional 2,500 jobs expected through related activities. Its steel products will be exported to countries including Burundi, Uganda, Congo, Tanzania, and South Sudan.

Prime Cement, acquired by Cimerwa in July 2024, has an annual production capacity of 600,000 tons. In January 2024, National Cement Holdings Ltd announced it had purchased 99.94% of CIMERWA shares for $85 million, ensuring sufficient local cement supply and reducing imports.

Established in 1984, CIMERWA is Rwanda’s first cement manufacturer. Its cement has been used in major projects such as BK Arena, Kigali International Airport in Bugesera, Stade Amahoro, multiple roads, and over 2,000 school buildings.
