Rwandans in Mozambique Celebrate Liberation Day 31 with Joy and Togetherness
Rwandans living in Mozambique, together with friends of Rwanda, celebrated the 31st anniversary of Rwanda’s Liberation Day in an event marked by unity, cultural performances, and a strong message of continued cooperation between the two countries.
The celebration, which brought together over 300 guests, was attended by Rwandans living in Mozambique, officials from the Government of Mozambique, representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations, as well as friends of Rwanda.
In his remarks, Rwanda’s Ambassador to Mozambique, Col (Rtd) Donat Ndamage, reflected on Rwanda’s difficult history and the tremendous progress the country has made over the past 31 years. He paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the Rwandan Patriotic Front (Inkotanyi) who liberated the country and paved the way for today’s peace, unity, democracy, and sustainable development.
Ambassador Ndamage also commended the strong ties between Rwanda and Mozambique, highlighting the existing cooperation agreements in various sectors, including security. He thanked the leadership of both countries for their commitment and praised the joint efforts of Rwandan and Mozambican forces fighting terrorism in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado Province.
The guest of honour, Mozambique’s Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries, Mr. Roberto Mito Albino, congratulated Rwanda for the progress made in strengthening bilateral relations. He expressed his desire to see trade between the two nations expand further and reach broader markets across the African continent. He also acknowledged the positive contribution of Rwandans to Mozambique’s economic development through partnership and collaboration.
The event was graced by traditional performances from Rwanda’s Ikirezi cultural troupe under the Rwandan Embassy and a Mozambican troupe. Guests also enjoyed a reception that provided an opportunity for networking, celebration and reinforcing the spirit of togetherness.
Such celebrations by the Rwandan community abroad continue to preserve the country’s history, promote national values of unity and sacrifice, and strengthen Rwanda’s relations with its partners around the world.
