Uzaramba Karasira Aimable dies at Nyarugenge prison as investigation begins
Aimable Uzaramba Karasira, who was nearing the end of his prison sentence, has died at Nyarugenge Prison where he had been serving his sentence, according to the Rwanda Correctional Service.
RCS announced on Thursday, May 7, 2026, that Karasira’s death occurred unexpectedly and that investigations are underway to establish the exact cause of death.
Preliminary information indicates that he is suspected to have taken a quantity of medication beyond the dosage prescribed by doctors, although authorities say inquiries are still ongoing to determine what happened.
Karasira had been detained at Nyarugenge Prison while completing the sentence handed down by the court.
