Rwanda is among the countries participating in the UAE SWAT Challenge, an international competition that brings together elite police and military special forces (SWAT / Special Forces) from across the world. The annual event is taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The competition is organized by the Dubai Police, in partnership with various security stakeholders, and attracts highly trained teams from different continents to showcase advanced tactical and operational skills.

On Saturday, February 7, 2026, the Rwandan delegation comprising members of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and the Rwanda National Police was officially received by Rwanda’s Ambassador to the UAE, John Mirenge, who wished the team success and encouraged them to fully utilize their expertise and capabilities to achieve strong results throughout the competition.

The UAE SWAT Challenge aims to test and showcase the highest levels of professionalism among elite security units. Participating teams are assessed through a series of demanding exercises, including counter-terrorism operations, tactical entry into secured locations, precision and speed shooting, hostage rescue missions, teamwork under extreme pressure, physical endurance, and rapid decision-making in high-risk scenarios.

Teams are scored based on speed, accuracy, safety, coordination, and adherence to competition rules. The competition also serves as a platform for sharing experience, strengthening international cooperation, and enhancing global security collaboration.

Launched in 2019, the UAE SWAT Challenge has grown into a major international security competition. The 2026 edition, which marks its seventh edition, runs from February 7 to February 11.

In previous editions, Rwandan teams have achieved notable success. In 2024, a team from the United Arab Emirates and Rwanda’s first police team ranked among the top performers in the obstacle course category, while Rwanda’s second police team finished sixth. In 2025, the Rwanda National Police won gold in the obstacle course event, further cementing Rwanda’s reputation in elite security competitions.
