Pope Leo XIV Calls on Global Youth to Champion Peace, Love, and Unity in 2025 World Youth Day Message
Pope Leo XIV urges young people worldwide to reject division and become true witnesses of Christ by building peace, love, and unity amid global conflicts. His 2025 World Youth Day message highlights hope ahead of the 2027 event in Seoul.
Vatican City; In his message for the 40th World Youth Day, Pope Leo XIV delivered a passionate appeal to young people worldwide, urging them to rise above global divisions and conflicts by becoming agents of peace, love, and unity.
The Pope’s message, released on October 7, 2025, set the tone for this year’s celebration, which will be observed at the diocesan level on November 23, ahead of the international gathering scheduled to take place in Seoul, South Korea, in 2027.
This year’s theme, “You too will be my witnesses, because you have been with me,” serves as a call for youth to embody the teachings of Christ through truth, compassion, and solidarity values the Pope said are urgently needed in a world “wounded by conflict, inequality, and hate.”
“Do not follow those who invoke God’s name to divide people,” Pope Leo XIV cautioned. “Instead, work to eliminate injustice and heal the hearts that have been torn apart.”
The Pontiff underscored that true Christian witness goes beyond political activism or ideological advocacy. It is, he said, a matter of inner transformation and love expressed through humble service. “Christ does not call us to use His name for political gain but invites us into friendship that transforms our lives,” he stated.

Highlighting the silent strength of genuine believers, the Pope remarked, “True witnesses do not seek recognition or power. They possess humble hearts that speak truth even in front of those who hold authority.”
Echoing sentiments often expressed by Pope Francis, Pope Leo XIV challenged the world’s youth to step out of their comfort zones and take the lead in supporting the poor, the forgotten, and those who have lost hope. “If we do not go beyond our comfort to meet the poor and hopeless, we cannot truly encounter Christ,” he emphasized.
Addressing the harsh realities facing millions of young people those trapped in war zones, deprived of education, or separated from their families the Pope reminded the faithful that all humanity shares a deep desire for meaning and inner peace.
He called on youth to reject indifference and idleness, instead striving to build friendship and unity as the foundation of lasting peace. “Do not fear to begin anew,” he urged. “Free yourselves from selfishness, be builders of love, heal divided families, and bring comfort to those who suffer. This is how we become messengers of peace.”
Concluding his address, Pope Leo XIV affirmed that peace is not an external condition but a divine gift that flows from hearts filled with Christ’s love. “That peace, a gift from the risen Savior, will shine in the world through those who carry His Spirit within them,” he said.
Expressing solidarity with youth in war-affected regions, the Pope added, “We are with the young people of Gaza and Ukraine. You are living proof that a divided world can become one a world where weapons give way to love and brotherhood.”
