Rwanda participates in a major coffee exhibition in the United States aiming to find new markets
Rwanda has taken part in a major international coffee exhibition held in the United States, with the main objective of expanding its coffee export markets and attracting new buyers from different parts of the world.
This was covered again on April 12, 2026. the exhibition brought together various coffee-producing countries, international buyers, exporters, investors, and coffee industry experts. It served as an important global platform for showcasing coffee products, sharing knowledge, and exploring new business opportunities in the coffee sector.
The Rwandan delegation used this opportunity to promote Rwandan coffee, which is widely known for its high quality, unique flavor, and strong reputation on the international market. Rwanda highlighted that its coffee is grown in high-altitude volcanic soils, which contribute to its distinctive taste and premium quality.
Officials also emphasized the role of thousands of smallholder farmers who are organized into cooperatives. These cooperatives play an important role in improving production, enhancing quality, and facilitating access to international markets.
Rwanda has also invested in improving coffee processing infrastructure, including washing stations and modern drying techniques. These improvements have helped increase the value of Rwandan coffee and strengthen its competitiveness on the global market.
During the exhibition, Rwanda engaged in discussions with potential buyers and partners, aiming to strengthen trade relations, particularly with the United States, which remains one of the key export destinations for Rwandan coffee.
NAEB figures show coffee’s growing role in the economy.
Figures from the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB) show that coffee continues to be one of the key pillars of Rwanda’s economy. In 2025, the country earned over 216 billion Rwandan francs from exporting 23,860 tons of coffee, representing a significant increase compared to 2024, when 17,142 tons generated over 129 billion Rwandan francs.
This growth reflects a strong increase in both coffee production and export revenue.
NST2 targets for coffee exports
Under Rwanda’s National Strategy for Transformation (NST2), the country aims to export more than 32,000 tons of coffee annually by 2029. This is expected to generate over 192 million US dollars in export revenue, further strengthening coffee’s contribution to the country’s economic development.
Coffee remains one of Rwanda’s most important export commodities and a major source of foreign exchange earnings, and the government continues to promote the sector to boost exports and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
