Rwanda has officially become the 125th member of the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM), a development confirmed during the federation’s General Assembly held on 5 December 2025 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The move places Rwanda among nations that follow global standards for motorcycling safety, regulations, training, and event organization. Established in 1904, FIM is the global governing body for motorcycle sport and oversees major world championships including Motocross, Enduro, Trial, and MotoGP.

Rwanda’s admission comes after sustained efforts to develop motorsport through national competitions and improved coordination under the Rwanda Automobile Club in cooperation with the Ministry of Sports. These initiatives have increased local participation, improved event management, and strengthened the country’s standing within the regional motorsport community.

Membership in FIM will allow Rwanda to access advanced training programs, technical support, and new avenues for hosting international events. It is expected to open opportunities for skill development among riders, coaches, and technical officials while offering a clearer pathway for local athletes to compete beyond national borders.

Starting January 2026, Moto disciplines such as Motocross, Enduro, and Trials will be included in the official national championship calendar, creating more competitive platforms for emerging talent and aligning domestic events with international standards.

Rwanda’s growing recognition in global motorsport follows its hosting of the FIA General Assembly in 2024, an event that highlighted the country’s organizational capacity and commitment to expanding its footprint in the world of motorsport.

With FIM membership now secured, Rwanda is set to continue strengthening its role in the development of motorcycle sport regionally and internationally.
