Fred Hategekimana Appointed Acting Mayor as Kayonza District Officials Suspended
Kayonza District in Rwanda’s Eastern Province has appointed new acting leaders after the District Council suspended the entire executive committee from their duties earlier this week.
The suspension followed an evaluation by the Council, which concluded that the officials had not fulfilled their responsibilities adequately.
The District Council’s statement, issued under Law No. 065/2021 of 09/10/2021 governing district administration, confirmed that the suspended officials include Mayor Nyemazi John Bosco, Deputy Mayor in charge of Economic Development Munganyinka Hope, and Deputy Mayor in charge of Social Welfare Harelimana Jean Damascène.
To ensure continuity, Fred Hategekimana has been appointed as Acting Mayor, while Jules Higiro takes on the role of Acting Deputy Mayor. The new acting leaders will manage the district’s operations as preparations begin for upcoming elections to permanently fill the positions.
Authorities stressed that the temporary appointments aim to maintain stability, safeguard ongoing development programs, and ensure smooth service delivery until the new officials are elected.
The move marks an important transition for Kayonza District as it continues its development agenda under interim leadership.
