Minister Uwimana Calls for United Efforts to Promote Early Childhood Development
Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Consolée Uwimana, has emphasized the importance of collaboration in advancing early childhood development (ECD) in Rwanda.
She noted that while significant progress has been made in delivering ECD services, there is still a need to strengthen coordination among government institutions, educators, and development partners.
She made these remarks on Thursday during the opening of a two-day national conference aimed at reviewing and improving services for young children. The event was held under the theme: “Enhancing Early Childhood Development Services Through Innovation.”
Assumpta Ingabire, Director General of the National Early Childhood Development and Child Protection Agency, highlighted that well-coordinated ECD services are critical for preparing children to grow up healthy, knowledgeable, and capable of reaching their full potential benefiting not only the child but the country as a whole.
Statistics show that Rwanda currently has over 32,000 family-based ECD centers, and participation in these programs has grown dramatically from more than 297,000 children in 2020 to 1.1 million in 2025.
Minister Uwimana called on all stakeholders to unite their efforts and continue prioritizing programs that support young children, noting that investing in early childhood is an investment in the future of the nation.
