President Museveni Pledges Better Road Connectivity in Lango as 2026 Campaign Gains Momentum
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the NRM National Chairman and Presidential flagbearer, has promised to address the long-standing issue of poor road connectivity in the Lango sub-region as part of his 2026 campaign commitments.
Speaking to more than 15,000 NRM leaders at Lango College in Lira City, President Museveni said he would “study and resolve” the problem of the eastern access route, noting that it was unfair for residents of Namasale just 80 miles from Kampala to travel long detours through Lira, Kamdini, and Karuma.
The President was responding to concerns raised by leaders, including Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua, who urged government to upgrade strategic roads such as the Dokolo–Bata–Abako–Aloe stretch and link it to other ongoing projects to boost trade, tourism, and ferry access.
Obua noted that Lango currently has only 5% tarmac road coverage, the lowest in the country, despite strong progress in health and education infrastructure.
Museveni highlighted completed and ongoing projects including the Soroti–Lira road, the Rwenkunyu–Masindi Port–Lira–Apac road, and the Bobi–Aboke road—saying they were the result of careful national prioritization.
He also said the NRM is considering paying monthly salaries to selected grassroots leaders, though he stressed that sustainable empowerment would come from wealth-creation programs such as Operation Wealth Creation and the Parish Development Model.
The NRM’s Second National Vice Chairperson, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, praised the President for restoring peace in the region and reaffirmed Lango’s strong support for his re-election bid.
President Museveni is set to continue his campaign trail with visits to Kamwenge and Kyegegwa.
