Extraordinary Summit on DRC Security Opens in Entebbe, Uganda
An Extraordinary Summit on the security situation in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is underway at State House in Entebbe, Uganda, bringing together regional leaders and ministers to discuss pathways toward lasting peace and stability in the Great Lakes region.
The high-level meeting is being chaired by Uganda’s President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is leading ministerial-level discussions focused on addressing persistent insecurity in eastern DRC and strengthening regional cooperation.
Rwanda is represented at the summit by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Vincent Biruta, while the Democratic Republic of Congo is represented by Anzuluni.
President Museveni said the discussions have been constructive and expressed optimism about the collective resolve shown by participating countries.
“I am currently chairing the ad hoc Summit on the security situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and in the region, at State House, Entebbe. I am encouraged by the discussions and by the firm commitment of the participating countries to collaborate in order to establish lasting peace and stability in the Great Lakes region. I welcome them,” he said.
The summit underscores renewed regional efforts to coordinate political, diplomatic, and security responses to ongoing challenges in eastern DRC, amid calls for enhanced dialogue, cooperation, and respect for agreed regional frameworks.
