Rwandan President Paul Kagame arrived in Guinea-Conakry on Tuesday for a two-day working visit, where he was warmly received by his counterpart, President Mamadi Doumbouya. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations and launch major development initiatives between the two nations.

During the visit, the two leaders are expected to inaugurate the Simandou Iron Ore Project, one of the world’s largest iron ore developments. The Simandou mines, located in southeastern Guinea, are believed to hold an estimated three to four billion tons of high-grade iron ore. Once operational, the project is expected to produce up to 120 million tons annually by 2030, positioning Guinea among the leading global players in the iron and steel industry.

On November 12, Presidents Kagame and Doumbouya will also officially open the Transform Africa Summit (TAS), a major continental conference focused on technology and sustainable development.

The summit, organized by the Smart Africa Alliance a coalition of over 30 African countries promotes digital transformation as a driver for economic growth, innovation, and good governance across Africa.

This year’s discussions will highlight how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can accelerate Africa’s development, with key sessions dedicated to its application in agriculture, education, healthcare, commerce, and governance.

President Kagame, who chairs the Smart Africa Alliance, is expected to play a central role in the summit, continuing his advocacy for technology-driven transformation as the foundation of Africa’s future prosperity.

The visit underscores Rwanda’s broader strategy of deepening partnerships across the continent, focusing on investment, industrial growth, and digital innovation to uplift African communities and strengthen regional cooperation.
