Agape Team Kasarani were crowned champions of the inaugural Imena Football Tournament 2025 in Nairobi. Speaking to Ukwelitimes, the team and the Bishop of Agape Church attributed their victory to faith, teamwork, and community spirit. The Agape Team Kasarani has been crowned champions of the first-ever Imena Football Tournament 2025, following an electrifying final at Marist International University College in Nairobi. The tournament brought together four Rwandan community teams from across Kenya, celebrating unity, sportsmanship, and cultural pride.

The competition featured teams representing Bondo (Siaya County), Thika (Kiambu County), Marist International University College (Nairobi), and Kasarani (Nairobi). The Agape Team Kasarani impressed both fans and officials with their discipline, tactical play, and strong team spirit ultimately lifting the inaugural trophy.

‘A Victory for All of Us’ »Agape Team Captain

Shortly after the match, the Agape Team captain spoke to Ukwelitimes, dedicating the victory to the entire community.

“This win is not just for us as players. It belongs to the entire Rwandan community in Kenya and especially the Agape family. We trained hard, we believed in each other, and today we made history,” said the captain with visible joy and pride.

The team also expressed appreciation to the organizers and Rwanda’s High Commission in Kenya for creating a platform where sports can build unity and cultural identity among the diaspora.

Bishop’s Message: Faith and Teamwork Brought Us Here

The Bishop of Agape Church Kasarani, whose congregation forms the core of the winning team, described the triumph as a testament of faith, discipline, and unity.

“We thank God for this victory. Our young people showed what happens when faith, teamwork, and purpose come together. This tournament is more than just football—it is about building bridges and strengthening our Rwandan identity,” Bishop told Ukwelitimes.

The awarding ceremony took place later in the evening at the United Kenya Club during the Rwanda Cultural Gala & Exhibition 2025, which brought together over 500 Rwandans and friends of Rwanda.

The gala showcased Rwandan art, fashion, cuisine, and entrepreneurship, serving as a vibrant celebration of Rwandan heritage in Kenya. Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Kenya, H.E. Ernest Rwamucyo, congratulated Agape Team Kasarani and all participating teams for their spirit of unity and competition.

“This tournament is a powerful symbol of who we are as Rwandans! united, proud, and forward-looking. Through sports and culture, we strengthen our bonds and preserve our identity,” said Ambassador Rwamucyo.
