Kenya’s First Lady Rachel Chebet Ruto Meets First Lady Jeannette Kagame, Explores Imbuto Foundation’s Impact
Kenya’s First Lady, Rachel Chebet Ruto, was warmly received by First Lady Jeannette Kagame on Friday, November 14, 2025, during her official visit to Rwanda.
The meeting took place at the Imbuto Foundation offices, where the two leaders discussed programmes that are transforming the lives of women, girls, and young people in Rwanda.
During the engagement, Madam Jeannette Kagame shared the Foundation’s two-decade journey of advancing health, education, and women’s empowerment. She highlighted initiatives supporting adolescent girls, promoting comprehensive reproductive health, preventing early pregnancies, and expanding access to HPV vaccination.
Madam Ruto also learned about Imbuto’s flagship education programmes, including the long-running initiative that rewards high-performing girls through which more than 8,000 students have been recognised.
As part of her visit, Madam Ruto toured the Eza-Urugwiro Early Childhood Development Centre located within the Office of the President. The centre showcases Rwanda’s approach to delivering early childhood services that integrate nutrition, learning, and parental support for children’s development from the earliest years.
Later in the day, the Kenyan First Lady visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where she paid respects to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. In a message posted on her X platform, she reflected on the importance of peace, unity, and shared humanity.
She wrote that the memorial “reminds us of the dignity we owe every human life, the ties that bind us, and our collective responsibility to protect peace for future generations.”
The visit highlighted the growing collaboration between Kenya and Rwanda in promoting gender equality, youth development, and strong families. It also underscored the role of First Ladies in driving national and regional initiatives that uplift communities.
