Rwanda and Uganda Deepen Economic and Security Cooperation at JPC 2026 Talks
Senior government officials from Rwanda and Uganda have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening trade, investment, and regional integration during the 2026 session of the Joint Permanent Commission (JPC).
The meeting, held under the framework of the Joint Permanent Commission, brought together high-level delegations to review progress and set new priorities for bilateral cooperation.
Both sides agreed on the importance of addressing persistent trade barriers while scaling up economic exchanges to benefit citizens of both countries. Participants also assessed the implementation of resolutions from the previous JPC meeting held in Kigali in 2023, while exploring new joint projects aimed at sustainable development.
Beyond economic cooperation, discussions extended to key sectors such as security and defense, cross-border infrastructure, immigration management, police collaboration, and education. These areas were identified as critical in enhancing stability and fostering closer ties.
The JPC 2026 meeting highlights the long-standing relations between Rwanda and Uganda and reflects a renewed political will to strengthen cooperation.
It also aligns with broader regional and continental frameworks such as the East African Community and the African Union Agenda 2063, which promote integration and sustainable development across Africa.
Officials expressed optimism that the outcomes of the meeting will further boost joint initiatives, improve livelihoods, and reinforce the partnership between the two neighboring nations.
