The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), in collaboration with the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), has officially launched reconstruction works to repair infrastructure damaged by natural disasters in Montego Bay, St. James Parish.

The engineering contingent of the RDF began the works following their deployment to Jamaica on January 14, as part of efforts to support the Caribbean nation’s recovery after the destruction caused by Hurricane Melissa, which struck the country last year.

The initial phase of the operation focuses on rehabilitating and rebuilding homes for residents affected by the hurricane, marking the start of a broader humanitarian and reconstruction program aimed at supporting vulnerable communities.

This joint initiative highlights the strong cooperation between the armed forces of Rwanda and Jamaica, and supports the Jamaican government’s national recovery and disaster resilience efforts.

The deployment of RDF troops to Jamaica is based on a bilateral cooperation agreement between the governments of Rwanda and Jamaica, aimed at providing technical and humanitarian support in rebuilding infrastructure damaged by natural disasters.
