As Rwanda gears up to host the 2025 UCI Road World Championships, the Rwanda National Police has announced that the Nyanza Bus Terminal in Kicukiro will be temporarily relocated to Rebero, near Canal Olympia.

The terminal, normally situated along the busy Kigali–Bugesera highway, lies on one of the race routes scheduled from September 21–28, 2025. Authorities say the move is aimed at ensuring safety and smooth traffic flow during the global event.

Speaking to RBA, Police Spokesperson ACP Boniface Rutikanga explained:

“Since the race will use that corridor, the Nyanza terminal will operate from Canal Olympia on the days when the route is active. After the championships, services will return to their usual location.”

In addition to the terminal relocation, several major roads across Kigali will be closed to public transport, schools will remain shut during the event week, and many government employees will work remotely.

The competition, the first of its kind to take place in Africa, is expected to attract a global TV audience of over 330 million viewers.

According to the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the races will be broadcast in 124 countries via 22 international channels, with Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA) serving as the host broadcaster.

If projections hold, this edition could set a new record for viewership, surpassing the 2019 World Championships in Yorkshire, UK, which drew around 329 million viewers.
