Rwanda’s Minister of Interior, Dr. Vincent Biruta, has delivered a special message from President Paul Kagame to Angolan President João Lourenço, extending warm congratulations to the Government and people of Angola as the nation marks 50 years of independence.

Dr. Biruta presented the message on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, during the official Independence Day celebrations held at Praça da República in Luanda, Angola’s capital.

Angola attained independence from Portuguese colonial rule in 1975, following a 13-year liberation struggle. Since then, the country has continued to strengthen its democratic institutions and regional partnerships.

Rwanda and Angola enjoy a strong and growing relationship, founded on cooperation in areas such as security, justice, and mineral exploration. The two countries have also abolished visa requirements for their citizens, facilitating greater movement and business exchanges.

Moreover, Angola has been instrumental as a mediator in regional peace efforts, particularly in dialogues between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) aimed at promoting stability in the Great Lakes region.

The delivery of President Kagame’s message underscores the longstanding friendship between Kigali and Luanda and reaffirms both nations’ shared vision for peace, security, and prosperity across the conLtinent.
