“To achieve your goals, you must embody the values of a true Rwandan,” PM Dr. Nsengiyumva tells UR graduates
Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva has reminded graduates of the University of Rwanda (UR) that receiving a degree is not the end of their journey but the beginning of a new chapter of responsibility, innovation, and service to the nation.
He delivered the message on Friday, October 17, 2025, during the 11th graduation ceremony held at the University of Rwanda’s Huye Campus Stadium, where 9,529 students from the university’s seven colleges were awarded degrees including 4,204 women and 5,325 men.
“This milestone should not be viewed as the end, but as a new beginning,” Dr. Nsengiyumva told the graduates. “The road ahead may bring challenges, but it will also open new opportunities. Work hard, think critically, and always aim higher. Change only happens when people step out of their comfort zones.”
The Prime Minister emphasized that Rwanda’s future lies in the hands of educated youth who are expected to use their knowledge to build a knowledge-driven and innovative economy.
“You are the strength of this nation,” he said. “Use the knowledge you have gained from the University of Rwanda to safeguard and expand the progress we have achieved together.”
Dr. Nsengiyumva further urged the graduates to uphold Rwandan values of integrity, discipline, and patriotism, describing them as essential pillars for achieving success.
“To achieve your goals, you must embody the values of a true Rwandan love for your country, dedication to work, and the pursuit of excellence,” he said. “Avoid negative habits such as laziness, excessive drinking, and immoral behavior, which can derail your dreams.”
The University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Didas Kayihura Muganga, commended the graduates for their dedication and encouraged them to embrace technological advancements, particularly Artificial Intelligence, as tools for driving innovation and addressing modern challenges.
“The world today is driven by technology,” Prof. Kayihura said. “Embracing artificial intelligence and digital skills will help you remain competitive and innovative.”
