Rwanda receives 143 teachers from Zimbabwe
Rwanda has received 143 teachers from Zimbabwe under the Rwanda–Zimbabwe bilateral cooperation programme aimed at strengthening the quality of education, particularly the teaching and use of the English language across schools.
The teachers arrived in Rwanda on Sunday, December 21, 2025, and were officially welcomed on December 22, 2025, during a reception held at Ntare Louisenlund School in Nyamata Sector, Bugesera District.
During the ceremony, the teachers expressed appreciation for Rwanda’s safety, cleanliness and hospitality, and reaffirmed their commitment to sharing knowledge that will positively impact students and communities across the country.
The event was attended by several officials, including the Ambassador of Zimbabwe to Rwanda, Prof. Charity Munyeruke, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Charles Karakye, the State Minister for Education, Irere Claudette, and Zimbabwe’s Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Edgar Moyo.
Speaking at the event, State Minister for Education Irere Claudette said the incoming teachers will reinforce Rwanda’s education system and promote collaboration among educators.
She noted: “We are confident that these teachers will add value to our schools by strengthening learners’ skills and working closely with their Rwandan counterparts. Collaboration among teachers is key to improving the quality of education.”
The welcome ceremony was also attended by 157 Zimbabwean teachers from the first cohort who have been teaching in Rwanda for nearly three years and reported positive outcomes from the exchange programme.
Zimbabwe’s Minister Edgar Moyo urged the teachers to demonstrate professionalism, respect Rwanda’s laws, and embrace the local culture as they carry out their duties.
In addition to teachers, Zimbabwe has also deployed health and ICT professionals to Rwanda under the same cooperation framework. The partnership is anchored in a bilateral agreement signed in December 2021, covering education, health, and information and communication technology sectors.
