The Ministry of Education has released the results of the 2024/2025 national examinations for secondary school leavers, revealing a strong overall performance, with boys outperforming girls.

Out of the 106,418 students who registered for the exams, 106,079 sat for them. The general pass rate stood at 89%, with boys achieving a higher pass rate of 93.5% compared to 85.5% for girls.

According to MINEDUC, the results show an encouraging improvement in the country’s education sector, across both general education and technical/vocational tracks.

In general education, 61,737 candidates sat for the exams, with 83.8% passing. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students recorded remarkable success, with 35,393 out of 36,141 candidates passing — a 98% pass rate.

Nursing students had a 100% success rate, as all 438 candidates passed. Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) also recorded impressive results, with only seven students out of 3,829 failing to meet the 50% pass mark. In the accounting stream, however, 825 students out of 3,916 did not succeed.

Among professional studies candidates, 8,201 sat for the exams out of 8,222 registered, with an overall pass rate of 89.8%.

Performance by subject streams revealed that out of 41,182 students in sciences, 81.45% passed. Humanities recorded a stronger outcome, with 90.78% of 10,091 candidates passing. Language students also performed well, with 86.1% of the 10,410 candidates passing.

The Ministry emphasized that these results reflect continued progress in the education sector, while also pointing to the need for strategies to close the gender performance gap.
