17 August 2025 Rwandans living in Mozambique celebrated the annual Umuganura festival with joy and cultural pride. The event took place at Residencial Kaya Kwanga in Maputo and was attended by around 400 people, including friends and international guests supporting Rwandan culture.

The day started with a football match between two Rwandan teams, Wednesday and Sunday, at Université Eduardo Mondlane at 11:00 AM. The Wednesday team won the trophy with a 2-0 victory.

The main celebrations began at 16:00, with RCA Mozambique representative, Mr. Justin Nsengimana, welcoming Ambassador Donat Ndamage and explaining the significance of Umuganura. He encouraged parents to teach their children Rwandan culture and the Kinyarwanda language.

Both the Embassy troupe and community performers entertained attendees with traditional Rwandan dances and cultural presentations related to Umuganura. Ambassador Donat Ndamage thanked all participants and especially acknowledged the women who helped organize the event, urging everyone to cherish and preserve Rwandan culture.

Umuganura is a Rwandan cultural day that celebrates the year’s harvest, preserves traditions, and educates children and youth about Rwandan heritage.
