The National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) has announced that consumer prices in urban markets rose by 7.3% in July 2025 compared to July 2024. This increase was mainly driven by significant rises in health care, food, beverages, and transport costs.

The NISR report indicates that prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 6.4%, alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 12.2%, health-related expenses surged by 70.7%, transport costs went up by 7%, and prices for restaurants and accommodation rose by 20.1%.

In rural areas, prices increased by 7% year-on-year in July 2025, while prices actually decreased by 1.1% compared to June 2025, mainly due to a drop in food and non-alcoholic beverage prices.

Comparing July 2025 to June 2025, urban consumer prices grew slightly by 0.1%, largely due to a 69.6% increase in health costs and a 2.7% rise in transport prices.

The Director of the National Institute of Statistics emphasized that this inflation requires close monitoring as it affects the livelihoods of Rwandans, particularly those in lower income brackets.

The Government of Rwanda is implementing measures to control prices and support citizens in coping with inflation, including efforts to boost economic growth and increase agricultural productivity.
