Rwanda, a country that once hosted a United Nations peacekeeping mission on its own soil, has emerged as one of the world’s leading contributors to international peace and security.

Today, it stands as the second largest contributor of UN peacekeepers, with 5,885 personnel currently deployed across multiple missions.

Remarkably, Rwanda is also the largest contributor of women peacekeepers, with 688 serving in various capacities. Their presence not only enhances mission effectiveness but also fosters trust with local communities and brings a critical gender perspective to complex conflict situations.

Rwandan peacekeepers, both military and police, play a vital role in protecting civilians and establishing conditions for lasting peace. Since deploying its first contingent to Darfur in 2004, Rwanda has become a major contributor to UN operations in the Central African Republic and South Sudan.

The nation honors the courage and sacrifice of its peacekeepers, 73 of whom have lost their lives while serving under the UN flag. Their dedication underscores Rwanda’s unwavering commitment to global peace and security.

Rwanda continues to set a global example, demonstrating the power of service, resilience, and solidarity in peacekeeping efforts.
