Rwanda Defence Force has announced significant progress in expanding military healthcare services across the country through the establishment of regional military hospitals aimed at serving both soldiers and civilians.

Speaking on behalf of Ministry of Defence Rwanda, Deputy Chief of Medical Operations, Brig Gen. Dr. John Nkurikiye, revealed that Rwanda now has military referral hospitals operating in several provinces as part of efforts to decentralize specialized healthcare services.

According to Brig Gen. Dr. Nkurikiye, the military hospitals currently operational include Kinihira Military Hospital located in the Northern Province, Bushenge Military Hospital in the Western Province, and Munini Military Hospital serving the Southern Province.

He further explained that plans are underway to establish a similar military hospital in the Eastern Province, while the City of Kigali already hosts existing military medical facilities.

The senior military official emphasized that the initiative is designed to improve the quality of healthcare services while bringing medical treatment closer to citizens across the country. He noted that the hospitals are not only intended to support members of the armed forces, but also to provide healthcare services to the wider population living near those facilities.

The expansion reflects Rwanda’s broader commitment to strengthening the national healthcare system through improved infrastructure, specialized medical services, and increased accessibility in both urban and rural area's.
