Rwanda envoy in Philippines calls Kwibuka a global Commitment to Truth and Never Again
Rwanda’s Ambassador to the Philippines, Marie Claire Mukasine, has said that Kwibuka is not only a moment to honor and remember victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, but also a time to reflect on the responsibility of safeguarding truth, confronting genocide denial and distortion of history, and reaffirming a global commitment to ensure that such atrocities never happen again anywhere in the world
She delivered these remarks on Tuesday during the #Kwibuka32 commemoration ceremony held at De La Salle University in Manila, Philippines. The event was organized in partnership between the Embassy of Rwanda and Rwandans living in the Philippines.
Ambassador Mukasine emphasized that remembrance goes beyond mourning, highlighting that it is also a call to action for individuals and nations to actively protect historical truth and promote unity and humanity. She encouraged continued education and awareness to counter misinformation and denial of the Genocide against the Tutsi.
The ceremony brought together members of the Rwandan community, friends of Rwanda, and academic representatives, all standing in solidarity with Rwanda during the 32nd commemoration period of the genocide.
