The Rwanda Investigation Bureau has reported a notable decline in cases related to genocide ideology during the National Mourning Week marking the 32nd commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

According to RIB, 47 case files were recorded between April 7 and April 13, 2026, involving 59 suspects accused of genocide ideology and related offenses. This represents a 38.2% decrease compared to 76 cases reported during the same period in 2025.

The number of arrests also dropped by 27.2%, from 81 suspects in 2025 to 59 this year. Similarly, cases related to discrimination and divisionism slightly declined, with five individuals detained in 2026 compared to six the previous year.

Regionally, the Southern Province recorded the highest number of cases with 14 suspects, followed by the Eastern Province with 13, the Western Province with 10, Kigali with seven, and the Northern Province with three.

RIB spokesperson Dr. Murangira B Thierry confirmed the figures, noting the overall reduction in reported cases. However, authorities emphasize that genocide ideology remains a concern both within Rwanda and beyond, calling for continued vigilance and public awareness.
