President Paul Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame on Monday evening, January 26, 2026, hosted a dinner at Urugwiro Village with International philanthropists and senior leaders from the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE).

The guests included globally renowned philanthropists Bill and Joyce Cummings, Didi Bertrand Farmer and Ophelia Dahl, co-founders of Partners In Health (PIH), Dr. Jim Yong Kim, Chancellor of UGHE, and Prof. Philip Cotton, Vice Chancellor of the university.

The dinner followed UGHE’s graduation ceremony on Sunday, January 25, which also marked the university’s 10th anniversary since its establishment in Rwanda.

Discussions focused on the role of international philanthropy in advancing healthcare and education in Rwanda, particularly in training the next generation of leaders in global health.

The Government of Rwanda praised the late Dr. Paul Farmer, founder of Partners In Health, for his significant contributions to UGHE and his lifelong commitment to making quality healthcare accessible and affordable for all. UGHE officially began operations in Rwanda in 2015, in partnership with PIH.

Graduates were reminded of their responsibility to apply their training with excellence as healthcare professionals, decision-makers, and leaders reflecting the lasting impact of international philanthropic partnerships on Rwanda’s health and education sectors.
